Generating An Idea

Before I decided on my final piece, I looked at a variety of cleaning products that could be recreated in marquetry.

The template designs were generated by pages of drawings using different medias and styles.

The ideas taken forward were redrawn and put into Illustrator to smooth and adjust. These were then shrunk to create templates.

These are the results in miniature. Unfortunately the adhesive was PVA and this led to the veneer sliding out of place.

With these designs, I also tried out the technique of using carbon paper to transfer the image onto veneer before cutting out. I found that this was far too messy for someone like me as the ink tended to smudge everywhere.
